Gallery Viewer was created out of a need for a simple, easy to use way of backing up and sharing pictures.

There are many picture sharing websites such as flikr and photobucket. These definitely have their place, but they are not without limitations. Firstly, you have to have an internet connection to see your pictures. You also need to connect to the internet, open your browser, navigate to the website, log in with your username and password then look at your photo album. With Gallery Viewer, you just open the program and see your pictures.

Also, what if photobucket or flikr go bust? What will happen to your pictures? With Gallery Viewer, the pictures are stored online as well as on your PC and all the PCs of the people you have shared the gallery with. So even if the internet disappeared into a black hole, you would still have your pictures.

We're positive that you are a web savvy individual, but lets say you wanted to share your new baby pictures or wedding pictures with your mum or your nan. Could she find your photos on flikr or photobucket? Is she even comfortable with using the internet. Gallery Viewer is simple to use, and once its installed there is no need for a browser and password etc.

Also, if you want to share your pictures with your family, you may need to make them publicly accessible. That may be OK for you, but personally I'm not that comfortable with having my baby pictures just hanging around on the internet. We think that only you, and the people you want to share with, should be able to access your pictures. With Gallery Viewer, even if a stranger could find your pictures (which we really doubt by the way), they wouldn't be able to view them because they are encrypted. Not even we can look at your pictures.
